97 days until the Daytona 500

Here is a list in detail of NASCAR drivers who have driven vehicles numbered 97.

Sprint Cup

Chad Little: 1994-2000
In 1994, Little started driving a Winston Cup Pontiac owned by Greg Pollex. It had a famous green and yellow John Deere Tractor paint scheme. For the 1998 season, Pollex sold his team to Jack Roush, who made the #97 car a Ford Taurus. Little became teammates with veteran Mark Martin, among others.

Kurt Busch: 2001-2005
Little was released before the 2000 season was over. Truck driver Kurt Busch replaced him in late September, John Deere pulled its sponsorship at year's end and the #97 ran unsponroed for the first few races of 2001. Rubbermaid/Sharpie signed on that April. Busch finished second in the 2001 rookie standings to Kevin Harvifck. The Roush #97 Ford featured several designs over the next few years. Busch won the Nextel Cup championship in 2004. 2005 would be his last year with the then-five-car organization, as he ended his contract early to replace Rusty Wallace at Team Penske. The #97 Taurus became the #26 Fusion in 2006.
